Southern Pacific 3420 is a C-19 class 2-8-0 Consolidation type Locomotive. During the first decade of the twentieth century the Consolidation type Locomotive was the main wheel arrangement for most mainline Railroads. By the 1950's the Consolidation type locomotive was relegated to switching and branchline use, lasting into the final days of steam.
